Here’s a question for you: how many Fire Protection Districts are there in the inter-mountain area of Jefferson County, the area covered by C.A.R.E.?
A second question: do you know which Fire Protection District you’re in?
Big thanks to Dave Hammond, Lookout Mountain resident and Chair of the C.A.R.E. Wildfire Committee for putting together this interactive online map.
Instructions to get the most information out of the interactive map:
- Hopefully the map opens up when you click on the link.
- When you zoom in, the address points become visible. These address points are available online from Jeffco GIS.
- If you click on a point, a box will pop up showing both the fire protection district and the street address info for that point.
- Click on the 3 lines in the upper right corner of the map, the legend pops up so that you can see the symbology of all the features.
Some of the streets covered by Foothills or by Genesee get confusing on the west side, off Genesee Mountain. The boundary does make sense by zooming in and seeing how the addresses are accessed off of Genesee Mtn Rd.

P.S. the answer is 7; there are 7 Fire Protection Districts in the C.A.R.E. area
P.P.S. by now you should have figured out which FPD you’re part of – hope you’ve had fun with the interactive map. And as always, neighbors and friends, stay safe, stay connected.
